THIS VIRTUAL WALK in Wright's Town, in 1830, captures the town at the very moment when Bytown is founded and the Rideau Canal is being built.
Wright's Town is the first permanent settlement of the Ottawa Valley, founded in 1800 by Philemon Wright. At that time, Wright's Town was the staging ground for their creation, and this walk will take you through the crucial role it played in the founding of the NATIONAL CAPITAL. This virtual WALK IN WRIGHT'S TOWN IN 1830 will also be a part of the BYTOWN MUSEUM'S permanent displays.

(CORRECTION: In the video, on the Union Bridge, I call Thomas McKay, John McKay, which is of course incorrect. Sadly, I only noticed this error months later.)

This is a brilliant piece and so well done! It connects some of the pieces of my families’s history that I’ve been following over the years. We also came from MA and settled in Wright’s Town with the first settlers to the area.. Thank you for stewarding our history..
What an eye opener! I grew up in Hull and several family members still live there since 1954. This walk with you through history has given me a greater appreciation for my old home town. Thank you. BTW, are you related to Nola Henderson?
Thank you for an informative and very enjoyable stroll into the past and through little Wright's Town!
Amazing! Really brought the past to life. How many times have I walked/rode my bike past these places without knowing their history? Now I will see with brand new eyes. Thank you. You need to make a walk through Lower Town as well, say 1837, that would also be wonderful
Very well done. It was a lovely walk through local history. Makes me wonder what part my own ancestors had in this story. Thank you for putting this together and sharing 😁
